ID 315 – Travel South Africa: In Mandela’s Footsteps – May-term 2018 only.
Spend three weeks in the Cape Town, South Africa walking in the footsteps of Madiba and learning about the revolution ending Apartheid. This includes exploring the island where he spent 18 years imprisoned, personally meeting with various social entrepreneurs and Multi-National Corporation leaders changing the social fabric of the country and economy, as well as enjoying Africa’s unique arts, music, food, religion, commerce, plants, animals, TWO oceans, weather and local students just like yourselves – all from a civic leadership perspective.

BA 377 – Non-Profit Management – Winter semester 2018 only.

This is an action learning course for students interested in getting up and out of the textbook to change the world from the vantage points of various disciplines across campus. Students will run a portion of class session as a makeshift non-profit board of directors to apply non-profit concepts in real-time, with real-stakes via a special service project to have a real-world impact. Specifically during the Winter 2018 semester students will regularly meet with some of the State of Iowa’s most influential non-profit and legislative leaders to help socially engineer a more mission-driven triple bottom-line society by changing State law to include Benefit Corporations.

BA 353 – Principles of Marketing
A project-based learning experience surveying introductory vocabulary and decision-making models commonly used in strategic marketing planning. Prompted by six executives sharing real-time marketing challenges in their respective companies/organizations, students are coached through the process of putting together a strategic marketing plan using basic industry frameworks under the guidance (and challenge) of six seasoned real-world executives/owners/board presidents in diverging industries including: Software Development (Silicon Valley), Sports Management (Greece), Healthcare (Utah), Childhood Education (Sweden), Religion & Spirituality (Iowa), and Fashion Retail (Wales).
